Pond Planet is a well established destination for aquatics supplies, trusted by hobbyists and pond owners for expert advice and a comprehensive product range. When the brand upgraded to Shopify, the intention was to strengthen digital performance and improve the customer experience through a modern, scalable store.

Shortly after launch, the team noticed an unexpected pattern. Traffic trends looked unusually low and user journeys appeared incomplete. The issue did not reflect real world demand. It reflected a growing industry wide problem. Increasing numbers of shoppers were rejecting analytics cookies, leaving retailers with partial datasets and an unclear view of what was actually happening onsite.

For Pond Planet, this limited the ability to monitor marketing performance, assess customer behaviour, and make reliable decisions. They needed a solution that respected user privacy while restoring the insight required to run the business effectively.

Cookease delivers accuracy and compliance through Advanced Consent Mode

To resolve the data gap, Visualsoft implemented Cookease, a Shopify app created to support the Advanced implementation of Google’s Consent Mode v2.

Unlike basic consent setups, which block all analytics when consent is denied, Advanced Consent Mode allows for anonymous consent safe pings to be sent to Google. These signals cannot identify individuals, but they provide enough information for Google to train behavioural models and rebuild missing data over time.

Cookease integrated directly with Pond Planet’s Shopify store, firing a custom web pixel before any consent decision was made. This ensured that recommended online sales events such as page views, product views, and add to basket actions were captured as anonymous signals whenever cookies were refused. No cookies were set and no identifiable information was transmitted.

As traffic built, Google’s modelling system accumulated the necessary volume to begin reconstructing behaviour from non consenting users.

The results: Visibility restored after just nine weeks

On 1st December 2025, Pond Planet saw modelled data begin to appear in Google Analytics. The reporting uplift was clear. Total users, sessions, and behavioural metrics rose in line with expected levels once the model had been trained.

This restored the complete picture the brand needed to understand its customers and evaluate performance accurately. For Pond Planet, the return of dependable analytics meant the return of confident decision making.

The timeline also demonstrated how the modelling process works in practice. Cookease was installed on 29th September 2025, and modelled data appeared after nine weeks. Larger stores with higher traffic are likely to see results sooner.

Cookease gave us the clarity we were missing. We can now see the real scale of our traffic again and understand how customers interact with the site, even when they opt out of cookies.”
