Everything you need to know from Google’s Core Update [August 2024]
Author: Billy Kelly, Senior SEO Account Director
With their most recent update, it is quite clear that Google is continuing to drive forward with its efforts to deliver higher-quality results for users. The Core Update from August 2024 expands on how they plan to improve the results they show; some of the main takeaways include:
Focus on quality content: This is nothing new; Google has always rewarded high-quality content. Google has emphasised that it will show more genuinely useful content for users and reduce the visibility of content designed purely for search engines.
Incorporating feedback: Google has also taken feedback on board from users and creators whilst shaping this update. Connecting users with content from smaller and independent sites to improve the relevancy of results was a criticism Google faced, but they are set to combat this.
Support for independent sites: Within the most recent update, Google specifically mentioned they will connect users with smaller, independent sites producing valuable and original content
Updated guidance for site owners: Google has refreshed its core update help page, which will show more detailed guidance for users who may have noticed changes in site performance after the update.
The full rollout of the August 2024 Core Update is expected to take “up to a month” to fully come into effect.
