2020 was a huge year for retailers. Here’s how you can get ahead in 2021.

Welcome to 2021!

2020 was truly a whirlwind of a year and, while it was a challenging one for all involved, we were delighted to report that Visualsoft clients collectively generated a +35% YOY increase in revenue through the platform - which was the platform’s most significant year of growth yet.

Additionally, in November, we were thrilled to announce our partnership with equity firm, Livingbridge, who committed a significant investment in order to help the Visualsoft team further the growth opportunities that we are able to offer our clients, and further enhance our platform and service capabilities.

The COVID-19 pandemic altered the world as we knew it; the population was forced to adapt their definitions of ‘normal’, both on a personal and business level. For eCommerce, while the digital surge has been on a steady incline for years now, the pandemic truly propelled developments forward at an accelerated rate.

There has never been a better time to re-platform. 2020 has demonstrated the incredible significance of eCommerce and online retail. The longer the population is restricted to living in this altered state of normal, the more likely as humans we are to converge towards the newer more comfortable, convenient commerce. Remember when we thought this was going to last three weeks?

Why replatform? Why now?

Compatibility and security vulnerabilities:

If you are coming towards or have passed the end of life, your store is now at risk - you’re no longer supported by security updates. This leaves your website at risk, which means your customer data is vulnerable to hackers - this can lead to large fines and loss of reputation. Similarly, many extensions to third party software will soon become obsolete causing frustration for users on site.

Payment issues:

Payment provider, Ayden, have already reported that they will no longer support merchants on Magento 1 end of life as your website is no longer compliant with Payment Card Industry Data Security - many other payment providers are likely to follow.

Disruption to usual operations:

On older platforms that are nearing or in the end of life stage, it will become harder to find software support to achieve routine updates. It will become more difficult to find a developer who will work with an older system, and updates are likely to be significantly more expensive and time consuming.
