Welcome to 2021!
2020 was truly a whirlwind of a year and, while it was a challenging one for all involved, we were delighted to report that Visualsoft clients collectively generated a +35% YOY increase in revenue through the platform - which was the platform’s most significant year of growth yet.
Additionally, in November, we were thrilled to announce our partnership with equity firm, Livingbridge, who committed a significant investment in order to help the Visualsoft team further the growth opportunities that we are able to offer our clients, and further enhance our platform and service capabilities.
The COVID-19 pandemic altered the world as we knew it; the population was forced to adapt their definitions of ‘normal’, both on a personal and business level. For eCommerce, while the digital surge has been on a steady incline for years now, the pandemic truly propelled developments forward at an accelerated rate.
There has never been a better time to re-platform. 2020 has demonstrated the incredible significance of eCommerce and online retail. The longer the population is restricted to living in this altered state of normal, the more likely as humans we are to converge towards the newer more comfortable, convenient commerce. Remember when we thought this was going to last three weeks?
Why replatform? Why now?
Compatibility and security vulnerabilities:
If you are coming towards or have passed the end of life, your store is now at risk - you’re no longer supported by security updates. This leaves your website at risk, which means your customer data is vulnerable to hackers - this can lead to large fines and loss of reputation. Similarly, many extensions to third party software will soon become obsolete causing frustration for users on site.
Payment provider, Ayden, have already reported that they will no longer support merchants on Magento 1 end of life as your website is no longer compliant with Payment Card Industry Data Security - many other payment providers are likely to follow.
Disruption to usual operations:
On older platforms that are nearing or in the end of life stage, it will become harder to find software support to achieve routine updates. It will become more difficult to find a developer who will work with an older system, and updates are likely to be significantly more expensive and time consuming.
Scalability, roadmap and new benefits:
A new platform needs to be scalable and flexible enough to handle your growth needs for the future in order to be able to provide return on investment in as efficient a timeframe as possible. Over the past year, the team at Visualsoft have rolled out numerous developments to enhance the platform for our retailers, such as making leaps and bounds improving upon site speed for our clients - along with much more. You can check out the Visualsoft roadmap for more information.
Platform and talent pool:
Having an amazing platform is great, but if you can’t use it to its full potential, you are limiting your opportunities for growth. A platform should provide you with full training, training and onboarding tools and 24 hour, UK-based support. At Visualsoft, we have a huge talent pool of dedicated developers to enhance your website and provide support - along with virtual walkthroughs to assist you at any time of day (or night!), quick onboarding and access to countless eCommerce integrations to help grow your business. By partnering with Visualsoft, you are truly partnering with some of the best in the business.
The more obsolete your current platform becomes, the more expensive it becomes. With some other platforms, outsourcing developers and tech requests can become ridiculously expensive. However, at Visualsoft, our Optimum level service means that we only grow when you do - so we are invested in your growth at our core.
Considering re-platforming? Here’s what you’ll need to think about:
When scoping out a new project, there are a few conversations you will need to have before you are able to properly evaluate how effective a new platform will be for your requirements. Don’t worry - our consultants will help you out with the evaluation process, but here’s what you should think about so that our specialists will have enough information to advise on what solution we can tailor to suit your requirements.
You’ve been in the business for long enough now to know what your customers like - and what works for your business. So that our specialists know what functionality needs to be carried over to (or improved upon) on your new platform, we need to know what needs to be taken into 2021
… and what needs to be left behind in 2020!
It will really help our consultants to go into detail about back end processes and issues you have come across with your current platform. Believe it or not, we’re not just being nosy - this is vial information for our team so they are able to curate the best solution to help you achieve your objectives and hit each and every growth goal as you scale your business over the years.
What are your business objectives for the next 2, 5 and 10 years?
We realise you may not have a step-by-step plan set in stone for the next 10 years, but it’s valuable for our team to understand where you want to be taking your business over the years. While you may not be ready to ‘go global’ right now, it’s important to consider what features, fascias and support you may need to help amplify your reach into international markets.
