Reasons to replatform

Seven signs that it’s time to migrate your online store.

Reasons to replatform

Is your eCommerce provider holding back your business?

We’ve successfully helped thousands of retailers move across to our platform after they’ve outgrown their previous setup, so we know which issues are deal-breakers. If you’re unsure whether it’s time to switch, we’ve highlighted the major red flags that you should look out for - if one or more of these blockers sounds familiar, replatforming sooner rather than later may be critical to the success of our store.

1. Lack of scalability

If you want to expand your business but your current platform can’t cope with higher volumes of traffic, stock, orders or integrations, the resulting service disruption will slow down growth, lose loyal customers, and ultimately cost you sales.

2. Global restrictions

Even if selling across new territories isn’t a priority right now, it should be an option for any retailer looking to increase revenue. Make sure your platform can offer storefronts in native languages with localised payment methods, and can help you to reach foreign markets via translated product feeds and marketing data.

3. Limited functionality

While some platforms are feature-rich, others are much more restrictive. Functionality shortcomings can stop you entering new markets, reduce conversions due to a poor shopping experience, and leave you facing excessively long lead times for custom functionality that should be available as standard.

4. Poor performance

Sluggish stores drive away shoppers in droves, and slow back office functionality hinders productivity, so it’s vital that your platform delivers optimum performance and page speeds so you don’t lose time and customers.

5. Weak security

Poor levels of security can quickly destroy an online store and your brand reputation. If you experience major breaches that threaten your business and customers, moving across to a platform that offers robust protection should be treated as a priority.

6. Operational incompatibility

As your business grows, it’s likely that you’ll rely on a number of specialist software providers for operational support. If it isn't possible to link up such systems with your online store to streamline how your business functions, a platform migration may prove to be the more cost effective option.

7. High costs, low return

Where the total cost of ownership no longer aligns with your budget, or the return on investment is simply too low, the advantages of moving to another platform may outweigh initial replatforming fees, making it the right choice for your business across the longer term.
