IMRG have this week released the latest mCommerce statistics, and urged retailers to be prepared for a ‘mobile Christmas’.
Retailers from around the world face an exciting challenge this Christmas, as consumers turn to mCommerce to find the latest deals available. Since May 2010, an increase of 163% has been reported in the number of consumers who access retail websites via their mobile phone in the UK. Furthermore, this growth looks set to continue as the festive season approaches.
New data released by comScore has revealed that 13.5 million users across the five leading European markets of France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK, account for 5.8% of all mobile subscribers, accessed online retail sites in the three month average period ending May 2011.
In the EU5 region, the number of smartphone users accessing online retail sites has increased by a massive 80% in the past year, however, the growth of mCommerce is still much stronger in the UK than anywhere else in Europe. This highlights the importance in keeping up to date with changing trends, and puts emphasis on the need for businesses to embrace mCommerce, especially with the festive season approaching fast.
