Further Google Shopping Product Feed Specification Update

What are the changes?

As of September 1st 2016 Google will be making further changes to their Google Shopping Product Feed Specifications. The feed specifications are put in place in order for sellers to know and understand the information Google requires about your products in order to run your Shopping ads.

From September 1st 2016 Google will be making it necessary for all apparel products submitted in Germany, France, Japan and the UK to include the “colour” attribute. Google will also require the “size” attribute to be included on products in the Apparel & Accessories > Clothing’ and ‘Apparel & Accessories > Shoes category.

If these attributes are not applied for apparel products before the deadline they will be disapproved from the feed and will no longer be eligible to show on Google Shopping.

Why are these changes happening?

The ads which are created for Google Shopping rely on the quality of the data provided within your product feed. By adding further requirements to the product feed Google are helping to increase the quality of your ad.

This year Google have been relaxing some of the restrictions but also tightening other restrictions. These have all been done with the one aim of ensuring your ads are seen when potential customers are searching for your products.
