eCommerce is booming in 2011

Recent findings have shown that the growth of eCommerce for the first half of 2011 has exceeded expectations in the UK, when compared to the same period in 2010.

The report, which was released by Capegemini & IMRG this week, revealed that there had been an increase of 19% in the industry, with online sales peaking at £31.5 billion for the first 6 months of 2011. Experts has predicted a growth of around 18% back in January, so the market has grown by 1% more than predicted.

This increase in online spend is said to be down to a number of factors, including the economic downturn pushing customers to find cheaper products online. Other variables such as the bad weather which the UK has experienced, special events and the rioting in July are said to have made a difference to the statistics.

Part of the growth in online sales has been powered by UK consumers searching for better value products, rather than the quality of service or convenience research has shown. During the same 6 month period, it has been reported that high street sales have dropped again by more than 0.5%, which highlights a major benefit for retailers selling online.

There has been a number of reports this year which highlights the continual drop in high street sales, and the continued growth of online retailing.
