The launch of Google+

Google’s new social network, Google+ was launched last month, and the new addition to the Google portfolio is already proving to be a massive hit with the site receiving more than ten million members in its first two weeks.

The still-in-beta Google+ has been largely attracting Internet users thanks to its many wonderful features like Circles, Sparks and Hangouts. Named Google Plus because it is described as ‘an extension of Google itself’, the social network allows you to have a user profile, find friends, view a news stream and many other features which allows users to keep up to date with friends and family from around the world.

According to the latest Comscore research which was released this week, Google+ has now surpassed the 20 million unique users mark in the three short weeks since launch. 50% of the new users are based in the US and India, while 870,000 sign-ups came from the UK.

The invite only social network is highly mobile, with Google launching the Google+ app on the iPhone just over a week ago, allowing users to make the most of Google Plus on the move.

Google+ is invite-only right now, although you can visit the Google+ home page to request an invitation. Eventually, everyone with a Google account will be phased in to the program.
