A fortnight ago we launched the brand new Ornamental Trees eCommerce website. In no time at all, the website has already become a finalist in The Good Web Guide’s 2010 Website of the Year Award. If that news wasn’t great enough, our day got even better as we received some glowing praise from the company.

A spokesperson for the Herefordshire based company revealed that before choosing Visualsoft, Ornamental had spoken to over 15 website companies, but having now worked with our team, they would recommend us in a “heartbeat”.

Visualsoft received a big thumbs up this week from one of the North’s top destinations for home interiors.

Earlier this month we launched the brand new website for Chapmans Furniture. The website redesign included features such as newsletter system, product filters and image zoom.

Days after the completion of the website, Visualsoft were chuffed to receive a message of gratitude from Chapmans. A spokesperson for the company wrote: “John Chapman and all the staff would just like to say how delighted we are with our new website. Thanks for all your help.”

Meta tags are instructions that are written into the HTML coding behind your website. A good way to see a meta tag at work is to take a look at the top line of your website browser and you will see the description of your website. This is the meta-title.

This is also the text that people will see when they do a Google search. Not realising the importance of this, too many websites waste this title with a simple “welcome to” or other greeting when it should actually be utilised to properly describe what your website is about and what services and products you provide. It is important to define you primary, secondary and tertiary key phrases for each and every page, this helps to define the narrow focus for the search engines.

Search Engine spiders use the meta-title to help identify what your site is about and then index it accordingly so that users can find it.  Each page within your website should have unique meta data, in order to define the narrow focus and help build the page relevance or desired key phrase density.

The remaining meta data, the meta description and the meta keywords, are the first available instances which allow you to build on your desired key phrase relevance. A 250 character limit for the meta description is normally the optimum, and the primary focus for the content is to satisfy the search engines. Although Google have devalued the meta keywords, due to past keyword abuse, it is still best practice to ensure these are completed. The other search engines such as Yahoo and Bing will still include them within their algorithm, and as they account for the remaining 20% of search traffic, the key words should not be ignored.
