Name:
Kat Pattison

Area of Expertise:
SEO Content Writing

How did you get into Content Writing?
I’ve always loved writing and wanted to find a career that incorporated this, I started off working as a copywriter for a small SEO agency and progressed from there! I joined Visualsoft in 2013 and am now the Content Team Leader, overseeing a team of copywriters who spend their days writing content for our clients.

What’s your favourite thing about working within SEO?
Probably the fact that nothing ever stays the same! SEO is evolving and the way that we used to write 5 years ago is nothing like it is today. I also love the creativity of it, thinking of new ideas for a wide range of clients and seeing the results.

Can you sum up your Workshop in three words?
Creating great content

What is the one thing you want people to take away from your
training session?
The importance of making a site unique. A lot of people underestimate the importance of having good content on a site, it helps ensure a brand stands out and that their visitors have a positive experience on the site.

I’m attending your workshop next month, do I need any prior knowledge? Can I do some early preparation/reading?
Nope – the workshop is aimed at absolute beginners. We cover everything from writing Metadata to the benefits of having a great blog and social profile.

What’s your favourite thing about running the training workshops?
The fact that every session is different, whether it’s horror stories from people who have had experiences with bad content writing companies or finding out about how people are currently communicating via their site. I also enjoy showing examples of bad content, guaranteed to get a laugh!

My ideal session would include….
Questions, questions and more questions. I find that once someone asks a question about their own website, it sparks a debate between the attendees about their own tactics.

Oh and for people to laugh at my bad jokes – there’s a lot of them!

Just for fun… If you were stuck on a desert island, what three things would you want to take?
My cat, notepad & pen

Last but by no means least we have Chris…

Chris

Area of Expertise:
Technical SEO

How did you get into SEO?
After doing a degree in traditional marketing and working in that field I realised that wasn’t for me. As I’d always enjoyed to online marketing side I moved into this area. I got to try my hand at pretty much every online marketing discipline but I ultimately found my passion in SEO and have been striving to build my knowledge in this area more ever since.

What’s your favourite thing about working with Technical SEO?
No matter what website I look at there are always areas which can be improved, I’ve never once looked at a website and not been able to find something to tweak or change to try and improve it. This means that whenever I work on a client website there is always something which has been made better, sometimes this may be a very minor change, but I always feel like I’ve done something to help.

Tips for a healthy website

What is the one thing you want people to take away from your
training session?
Everyone should walk away with a better knowledge of how Google works and what it expects to see on a quality website. As well as this everyone should walk away with some homework which they can action straight away.

I’m attending your workshop next month, do I need any prior knowledge?
The SEO workshop is targeted at complete beginners. Ideally you would have a good knowledge of how your own CMS system works but otherwise, come as you are.

What’s your favourite thing about running the training workshops?
In almost every workshop we do we get a question we’ve not heard before, this is often something which affects a particular industry. This really gives us an opportunity to go into more depth about specific areas but also creates a bit of a challenge as I don’t always have an answer prepared.

My ideal session would include….
My ideal session would include lots of interaction from attendees. I feel that people get the most out of the workshops when lots of questions are asked. This gives us the opportunity to go into more depth about the areas people care most about. This is a great opportunity for people to ask all those little questions they’ve been wondering about, and I can guarantee somebody else in the room is wondering the same thing.

If you were stuck on a desert island, what three things would you want to take?
A guitar, a case of Laphroaig and tortilla chips.

Both our mentors have an excellent knowledge of the industry and are constantly adapting to the evolving world of SEO. View upcoming workshops and book your place online here!
