Increasing price of petrol fueling online spend

A survey carried out by the Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD) has revealed that UK consumers are favouring online shopping over visiting bricks stores due to the soaring petrol prices. As sales on the high street continue to fall, recent research has shown that once again eCommerce sales are bucking the trend and reporting continued growth in the online sector. The latest figures from the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index reveal that online sales are showing strong growth, while the high street reports the worst drop in sales for 15 years. Retailers suffer record fall in sales since 1995

New figures released this week show that retail sales in March were 1.9% down on when compared to the same month in 2010, when there was a 6.6% rise. The research, from the British Retail Consortium, has reported the biggest drop in high street sales since 1995.
