Facebook reaches 30 million UK users

Last week Facebook announced it has hit the 30 million users mark in the UK, which means that 50% of the UK population is now registered on the social network site.

The news was confirmed at a press conference in London last week, which was given by Joanna Shields, the vice president of sales and business development at Facebook. This means the social networking site has acquired an additional four million users in Britain since July of last year.

Half of these users are known to be regular Facebook users, logging onto the site everyday. To support these findings, a recent study also found that British Facebook users spend an average of two-and-a-half hours on the site every day,  viewing an average of 856 pages each per week.

Founded in February 2004, Facebook is a social utility that helps people communicate more efficiently with their friends, family and coworkers. The company develops technologies that facilitate the sharing of information through the social graph, the digital mapping of people’s real-world social connections.

Since the launch of the social networking site in 2004, the average rate of growth in the UK has hit 145% every year, with numbers still increasing on a daily basis.
