Charles Clinkard began in 1924 with the opening of a shoe shop in Middlesbrough. From small beginnings The Clinkard Group has now grown to be the leading Independent Footwear Retailer in the North East and one of the largest Independents in the UK. The group consists of two key components: Charles Clinkard, which is the retail arm, and Intershoe the wholesale operation.

Visualsoft came highly recommended to us by a colleague who had past experience of working with them, and that was the end of our research into finding a web company.
We had an existing website but it had been built using off the shelf software and wasn’t performing well. It didn’t reflect the image or success of our offline stores. We moved over to Visualsoft to increase sales and not be tied to the limitations of an ecommerce package. Our main aim was to increase sales but by moving to a bespoke solution we were able to integrate with EPOS and dispatch systems and build the structure needed to support these increases.
The website has allowed us to attract new customers and increased our sector reach, on the whole we are now more well-known nationally. It allows us to compete on an even playing field with larger retailers in the same sector. Companies who have more offline outlets (and therefore more customers) are not really any different to us on the web, the main difference would be the service we provide.
The website has had a positive impact on our business and we have achieved our original objective; increased sales! For the future we plan to further increase sales, and keep improving the website with further automation and more ways to attract customers.
